The Wightman Cup

... was contested by women's teams from the United States and the United Kingdom.

It was dominated by the USA teams for most of its life. The UK won four of the first eight competitions, but after 1930 they didn't win it again until 1958. They won it a further five times in the ensuing 19 years, but by 1989 the United States had won the last eleven competitions. In four of the last five years (and seven of the last thirteen) the score was 7–0 to the United States. This US dominance was given as one of the reasons for its discontinuation.
